LMC

LMC stands for “Large Magellanic Cloud,” which is a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. It is one of the closest galaxies to Earth, located about 163,000 light-years away. The LMC is irregular in shape and is notable for its bright star-forming regions and numerous young stars. It is part of the Local Group of galaxies and is named after the navigator Ferdinand Magellan, who first documented it during his voyage in the early 16th century. The LMC contains various celestial phenomena, including the Tarantula Nebula, one of the most active starburst regions known.
